“How does trauma, chronic illness and terminal illness impact people’s thoughts and feelings? Many times it’s difficult for clients to express what’s happening inside their body and their mind. As a therapist, I have found myself looking for alternate ways to help clients express what may be inexpressible for them. Richard Alan Harvey’s, 20 Poems 20 Paintings: A Creative Warriors Journal, provides a wonderful, creative vehicle for this purpose. Based on his personal journey through diagnosis, treatment and remission of a supposedly terminal diagnosis, Richard shares poems and paintings as prompts for people to explore their personal journey through traumatic events in their lives. The sections can be used individually or in whatever order might appeal to someone. I have found it to be very useful in my practice and highly recommend it to other clinicians.”
